Sfax Seawater Desalination Plant

Description of the work

Sfax Seawater Desalination Plant

The project involves building a seawater desalination plant in Sfax, Tunisia, with an initial capacity of 100,000 m³/day (expandable to 200,000 m³/day). Led by SONEDE and awarded to a consortium including ORASCOM, METITO, and COBRA, this large-scale project aims to secure the region's drinking water supply by harnessing a new, unconventional water source. The works include the seawater intake, the desalination plant, brine discharge, treated water storage and pumping, as well as support infrastructure and utilities. This project is crucial for addressing the water challenges facing the Sfax region.
